SALLY LUCY TALKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY

A FEW IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS FROM SALLY LUCY AS TO WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN TRYING TO FIND A PHOTOGRAPHER. SHE TELLS US THAT SAFETY IS THE ONLY PRIORITY.....

NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER COVERING SPALDING, BOURNE, PETERBOROUGH AND STAMFORD, LINCOLNSHIRE.

THIS POST SHOULD GIVE YOU A IDEA OF WHAT TO THINK ABOUT WHEN LOOKING FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER OR THINKING OF STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY.

TRAINING;

Training is a vital part of newborn photography or indeed any photography. I have completed training with multiple photographers who are industry leads. This is an integral part of what you should be looking for in a photographer. I have had both my work and also my working practices, verified by my peers and also professional bodies such as BANPAS - Baby and Newborn Photographers Association.

This is important as safety must be the biggest single factor in any photo session. It is far more important than getting goods shots. In the photographs above and below, for example, it looks like the baby is all alone sleeping soundly. This couldn't be further from the truth. I, or another adult, will always have a hand very close to the baby at all times. The skill (and a poorly kept secret) is that some of your final photos will be a mixture of several photographs. The safety hand or adult that is in the shot will be removed post production.Your photographer should have the skill to do this. Remember, safety first.

INSURANCE:

Might be something that you never think about. You should ensure that your photographer has liability insurance. If the photographer belongs to the Guild of Photographers or BANPAS, they must have this insurance to be members.

PORTFOLIO OF WORK:

Have a good look through your photographers website and social media pages. Different photographers have very different styles so make sure they are match for what you want. Asking a photographer to change their style might not give you the best end results. There are plenty of photographers out there, so choose one who's work you really like. If you want to see anymore photos, to make sure, just ask. We all have thousands!!

PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS:

Have a look at what previous customers have said. Are there any reviews? Don't be too concerned if there are not hundreds, but there should be some and they should be independent. i.e. facebook feedback, google or other site independent of the photographers website.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, BEFORE YOU BOOK A PHOTOGRAPHER, SPEAK TO THEM AND DO YOUR RESEARCH.
